Allen Martin serves as a Senior Advisor to Kaufman & Company. Mr. Martin’s career in law and business spans over four decades. He was most recently the Chairman of WICOR Americas, Inc., a holding company which owns manufacturing firms that make insulating systems sold to the manufacturers of large, medium, and small electric power transformers. Wicor’s manufacturing facilities are located in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Brazil. Until 2003, Mr. Martin was a Director at law firm Downs, Rachlin & Martin PLLC (“DRM”), and had served as the head of the firm’s electric utility practice group as well as head of DRM’s healthcare practice group. Throughout his legal career, Mr. Martin also engaged in a sophisticated corporate securities practice where he, among many other transactions, managed the initial public offering of Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc. Mr. Martin had been with DRM since 1970. In addition, Mr. Martin has served on several other Boards of Directors including IDX Systems Corporation, an IT vendor to the healthcare industry that was sold to GE for $1.2 billion in early 2006. Mr. Martin is currently a Director of property and casualty insurer Union Mutual Insurance Company. Additionally, Mr. Martin served as a Trustee of Vermont Law School.
He has served as Vice Chairman of the Vermont Judicial Responsibility Board and Chairman of the Vermont Board of Education. He has been Republican National Committeeman and Chairman of the Vermont Republican Party. Mr. Martin holds an LL.B. from Harvard Law School, where he served on the Harvard Law Review, a B.A. from Oxford University and a B.A. from Williams College. He is a member of the Vermont and American Bar Associations and is a life member of the American Law Institute.
